Hi, I’m Pilot Nick, an airline captain with nearly 30 years of experience flying everything from packed passenger jets to sleek corporate aircraft across six continents. I’ve spent tens of thousands of hours in the sky… and just as many listening to passengers who were terrified to be there.
Over the years, I’ve guided nervous flyers through storms, delays, turbulence, and the quiet dread that can creep in the moment the cabin doors close. Some only needed a calm explanation. Others needed a whole new mindset.
That’s why I created Lessons From The Flight Deck and also SkyCalm.org, a free online support tool that acts like an AI co-pilot in your pocket. It’s designed to help you feel more in control during every stage of your flight, offering real-time reassurance, relaxation tools, and anxiety tracking features.
Because while flying may be statistically safe, fear doesn’t respond to facts alone.
Why Flying Still Feels So Scary (Even When You Know the Stats)
Here’s what I’ve seen time and again:
❌ You understand how safe aviation is, but your body reacts as if it’s not.
❌ You’ve flown many times, but each flight feels just as hard or worse.
❌ You try to stay calm, but turbulence, strange sounds, or even boarding can trigger panic.
It’s not your fault, fear of flying is deeply emotional, and it often lingers even after “doing everything right.”
But you don’t have to stay stuck there.
My Journey to Helping Anxious Flyers
👨✈️ 27+ years of experience flying Boeing, Gulfstream, and other jets across six continents
🛬 Thousands of passengers flown including many VIPs and nervous flyers
🎙 Known for calm, clear explanations that demystify aviation and ease in-flight anxiety
🧠 Deep understanding of fear, mindset, and communication from the flight deck point of view
I’ve coached flyers through storms, diversions, delays, and everyday turbulence often with nothing more than a few words of clarity and reassurance.
Now I bring that same voice to you, wherever you are through this newsletter and also through SkyCalm.org. It’s like having a calm, informed co-pilot by your side: you can ask questions, get guided breathing exercises, log your anxiety, and tap into support during turbulence in real time.
